The free Aqua Voice alternative
for Windows.
Aqua Voice's free tier is a one-time 1,000-word trial. Pro is $8/month. VoxWave uses the same Whisper-powered idea but ships unlimited and free, Windows-first.
What each tool stops you from doing.
If you're on macOS, stay there.
Aqua Voice's Mac app is the most polished thing in the market, integrates beautifully with macOS conventions, and Superwhisper / Wispr Flow both compete hard with them there. VoxWave doesn't ship for macOS — that's where Wispr Flow, Aqua and Superwhisper fight, and they all do it well.
VoxWave's pitch is for Windows users who don't want a Mac-shaped tool, a 1,000-word trial, or an $8/month subscription.
About moving from Aqua Voice.
Is VoxWave a real Aqua Voice alternative for Windows?
Yes. Both use Whisper for transcription and run an AI cleanup pass on top of it. The key differences: Aqua Voice's free tier is a one-time 1,000-word trial and Pro is $8/month; VoxWave is unlimited and free, and it ships natively for Windows where Aqua Voice's coverage is thinner.
Aqua Voice has 1,000 free words total. What does VoxWave cap at?
Nothing. The free tier has no daily, weekly, monthly, or lifetime cap. Dictate 50,000 words a day if you want — the only limit is how much your voice can take. If you want unmetered cloud (bypassing my hosted rate limits), bring your own Groq API key.
Does VoxWave do real-time dictation like Aqua Voice does?
Yes. Press the hotkey, speak, release. The cleaned text lands in your active app in under 3 seconds end-to-end on cloud mode. Progressive injection drops the raw transcript first (~200ms) then silently swaps it for the cleaned version — so you can keep typing.
Aqua Voice is on Mac and Windows. Why move?
Aqua Voice's Mac app is solid. Their Windows app is newer and less polished. If you're already in their ecosystem on Mac, stay. If you're on Windows and weighing options — VoxWave is built Windows-first by a developer who uses it daily on Windows.
Does VoxWave include the same AI cleanup quality?
VoxWave uses GPT-4o-mini for cleanup and adds context-awareness — it knows whether you're in VS Code (code profile), Slack (casual), or Word (formal). Aqua Voice's cleanup is also LLM-based and quite good. In my testing the output quality is similar; VoxWave wins on context detection, Aqua wins on UI polish.
No trial. No subscription. Just Windows.
Unlimited voice dictation, free forever on Windows 10 / 11.
