Hi, I'm Farnel. I'm a solo founder. I built VoxWave because I refused to pay $15/month to Wispr Flow when every penny counts. If you're like me, this is for you.
02 — the math

You write 5,000 words a day. Wispr Flow wants $15/month. Dragon is stuck in 2010.

That's 45 minutes a day. 11 hours a week.
Recover them — without a $15/month bill.

Free tiers are bait. Two thousand words a week sounds generous until you actually write. Then you're paying fifteen dollars a month, forever.
That's the gap VoxWave fills.

👋 Hi, I'm Farnel.

Six months ago I needed a voice dictation tool. Wispr Flow charges $15/month. I couldn't justify it.

So I built VoxWave for myself. Now I'm sharing it with anyone who writes a lot and would rather not pay a monthly fee for something they can have for free.

If you find it useful, tell another founder. That's all the marketing budget I have.

PS — Looking for the first 100 users. If that's you, hi.
07 — pricing

Free. No catch.

No tiers. No limits. Just everything.

08 — questions you'll have

Things other founders ask first.

Yes — free forever for the features listed above. If you bring your own Groq API key, it's even cheaper to run because you bypass any usage limits on the cloud tier I host.
Code signing isn't set up yet — it costs about €200/year and I'm waiting until I have real users before paying. Click "More info" → "Run anyway" to bypass SmartScreen. Release checksums and notes are on GitHub if you want to verify the binary before running.
Wispr Flow has a free tier capped at 2,000 words/week, and Pro is $15/month for unlimited. VoxWave is unlimited and free. Both use Whisper under the hood for transcription. The cleanup model differs (they use their own, I use GPT-4o-mini) but the output quality is similar in my tests.
Yes — 100% local mode is supported. Whisper runs on your machine (CPU or GPU). The AI cleanup step is optional and can also run on a local model if you set one up. No cloud calls required.
An AppImage build is available on GitHub Releases. It works, but it's not the primary focus — I'm a solo founder and Windows is the gap I'm filling first. If demand grows, Linux gets the same treatment.
Maybe. If a lot of users want premium features, or if the API bill from the free tier gets heavy, I'll add a Pro plan with included cloud usage and extras. For now: Free Forever, no surprise paywall.
